As a mental health therapist, Amber Bateman began noticing reoccurring themes among the people who came to her for help. Not only the issues they were struggling with: chronic stress, trouble concentrating, sleep problems, irritability, and somatic symptoms, but there were also cultural characteristics, aspects of living in the modern world, that were exasperating, and sometimes even causing, some of these struggles. As she thought deeply on how to care for clients, and continued in her own personal journey towards an emotionally healthy life, she identified four modern dangers to mental health. Determined not to stay in the realm of the theoretical, Amber has captured some of her best discoveries and tips about how to actually make change. Authentic, personable, concise, thought provoking and easy to read, Save Yourself Some Therapy is a goldmine of practical help for Christians (or anyone) living in the modern world.

Due to release September 2025.

what people are saying about

Amber’s upcoming book

  • “I’ve been blown away. Although I assumed I didn’t struggle with many of these areas, the more I read, the more I realize I’m bogged down by most of what Amber highlighted. The practical steps are excellent, and discussion questions are exactly what I’d expect from a seasoned counselor. I think this book will do exactly what it is intended to do.”

    — Small business owner

  • “I thought it was a highly practical book, easy to read while still being thought-provoking. I appreciated the sense of humor - the way Amber sprinkled the book with lightheartedness was disarming and welcome after all the times she stepped on my toes.”

    — Wife, mother

  • “All of the points Amber made about safeguarding our minds from too much stimulation pretty much floored me…Her viewpoint gave me a lot more grounding and ownership over this issue… She spoke about it so firmly, and yet with so much compassion…There are tools for me!”

    — Educator

  • “Honestly, the only thing I'd change is dialing up the "promise" in the introduction. To me, this book, if read and applied, really would "save people some therapy." Which makes me think Amber could promise more of that in the introduction… I think it would be tough to overpromise the helpfulness of this book.”

    —Pastor

  • “The four dangers Amber lays out are huge pieces of the most common struggles I see. It is an easy read and Amber’s voice and humor make it an enjoyable one, too. I found myself underlining certain sentences to hold onto… In the margin by the quote "how much of our mental and emotional distress is related to our actual lives" I wrote "boom". So, so good.”

    —Licensed professional counselor

  • “I really enjoyed reading this book! Amber has a gift to communicate big ideas in understandable and livable ways.”
